About Pointer Creek

Pointer Creek Wealth Management® is an independent, owner-led fiduciary planning and wealth management firm in Canfield, Ohio, serving individuals, families, business owners, trusts and other entities with financial lives that often extend well beyond an investment portfolio.

We built Pointer Creek around a planning-first idea: understand the person, family or organization first; understand what the money needs to accomplish second; and only then determine what strategies, investments or other tools may be appropriate.

Our Story

Built to Practice Financial Advice Differently

Pointer Creek grew from a simple frustration with the traditional financial-services model: too often, the product or transaction comes first and the planning is expected to follow.

We wanted to build the firm in the opposite direction. That meant creating an independent, owner-led practice where planning could come first; where a client could pay us simply for advice without being required to move an investment account; where investment management could be built around the purpose of the money rather than the need to gather assets; and where saying “no,” “not yet,” or “you don’t need that” could be perfectly acceptable answers.

Over time, that approach naturally led us deeper into the financial lives of the people we serve. Retirement decisions interact with taxes. Taxes interact with investments. Investments interact with estate planning. Businesses affect families. Trusts affect beneficiaries. And decisions that look perfectly reasonable in isolation can create consequences somewhere else.

Pointer Creek exists to help connect those pieces.

We have intentionally remained a specialized firm. Our goal is never to become the largest bulk-advice or small-account asset-gathering firm we can build. It is to build an enduring one that does excellent work, treats people well, continually improves its craft, and has the capacity to give each relationship the attention it deserves.

See the unseen.

“See the unseen” is more than a tagline. It describes how we believe good planning should work.

The most consequential part of a financial decision is not always the part that is easiest to see. A reasonable investment decision can create an unnecessary tax consequence. An estate plan can be beautifully drafted but never properly funded. A retirement-income decision can affect Medicare premiums, taxes and what ultimately passes to the next generation. A strategy that solves today’s problem can quietly create another one years from now.

Our job is to look across those intersections—to ask the questions that may not be obvious, identify tradeoffs and unintended consequences, and help clients understand not only what they can do, but what a decision may mean years or even generations later.

That’s what we mean by see the unseen.

What We Believe

Planning comes before transactions — We first understand what the money is supposed to accomplish, then determine which strategies or tools may be appropriate.
Fiduciary advice requires candor — Sometimes the right answer is “no,” “not yet,” or “you don’t need that.” We’d rather give an uncomfortable answer than manufacture a comfortable one.
Complexity should be handled, not transferred — The work behind the scenes may be complicated. Our job is to make the conclusions, choices and tradeoffs understandable.
Long-term decisions matter more than short-term activity — We think in years, decades and generations, not headlines and quarters.
Small is intentional — We would rather maintain the capacity to know our clients and do excellent work than pursue growth simply for growth’s sake.
